About

Celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Warner Bros. Pictures' iconic 1989 DC Superhero film, "Batman," live in concert!

The Dark Knight, defender of law and order in Gotham City, treads the shadow zone between right and wrong, fighting with only his skill in martial arts and his keenly honed mind to defend the innocent and to purge the memory of his parents' brutal murder - always keeping his true identity as millionaire philanthropist Bruce Wayne a closely guarded secret.

The film will be accompanied by a live orchestra, conducted by James Olmstead, providing the perfect opportunity to revisit a classic fan-favorite film based on one of the world's most popular DC comic characters, or to introduce it to a new audience. Guests are encouraged to dress up as their favorite DC Superhero.

  • Fun night but poor sound quality

by Tom on 7/30/24San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

The orchestra was excellent; but the movie had a very loud static that overpowered any music that wasn’t forte.

  • A must for any Bat maniac

This experience is a must if you're a Batman fan, the way the orchestra plays with the movie is out of this world, highly recommended.

  • Amazing

by Chino on 7/30/24San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

First time going to a show like this and definitely not my last, it was an amazing performance; the instrument players were out of this planet with accuracy and professionalism, I got choked up and I was just blown away on how amazing they all were. It was all worth the long month wait “for certain” and to know that everyone in there was attending with the same interest as me made the show and ambiance that much special.

  • Over-amplified audio, painful bass, tired venue

by Bruce Vain on 7/29/24San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 2 out of 5

The San Diego Civic Theatre area is not an attractive place to hang-out pre-show with the surprisingly high number of boisterous street-living people that greet you before you get to the smallish gated area in front of the theater. The first half of the show had the bass turned up excessively - the people in front of me put their hands over their ears! The audio was fixed after intermission, but the audience literally suffered through the first half. The over-amplified sound made the poor acoustics of the venue even worse, with just a flat wall of noise, in general. You couldn't hear the strings coming out of the string section, you couldn't hear the horn sounds coming from the brass section, it didn't sound live, it sounded like a recording with the volume turned up too excessively.

  • Great but Flawed

by Paul Justice on 7/29/24San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

I went to Superman Live in Concert in LA a year ago, by college students and it was fantasticly done never missing a beat of the music, and the audio was just right. So I expected the same or better with a first class orchestra at a first class theater being the Cevic Center. But that is not what happened. The opening had the speakers so loud it was deafening during the gotham streets and the floor was vibrating from it. During the movie the sound of bullets and car squeals would disappear all together in favor of the orchestra playing, it was very off putting. Some occasions the voices of the actors were dropped as well. There was no perfect balance or blend of the movie and the orchestra as it was with Superman 78 by the college students. This is all no fault of the orchestra, but the Civic Center itself. Only disappointment I had with the Orchestra was there was no Bell Tolls during the end of "Attack of the Batwing"and the "Finale"which is the greatest part of those scores. Not sure what instrument is used for that sound, but they did not have it or just didn't use it. The crowd was electric and the great Michael Uslan was two rows behind me, during Comic Con week, and that is was what kept my score from going any lower. I would definitely go to another, but not sure it would be at the Civic Theater due to their audio issues.

  • Best Experience Ever!

by Kimberly on 7/29/24San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

This was absolutely incredible!!! The musicians are SO talented. It was such a treat to watch my favorite childhood film on the big screen while also observing the live orchestra perform seamlessly with the film. I would do this again.

  • Lots of memories

It was great to see the movie again but having the live orchestra made it a better experience with memories to last a lifetime.
