About

Completing their seventh studio album was a hard-won victory for The Milk Carton Kids, but I Only See the Moon was worth the effort for Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan. What started as a three-week recording session in the fall of 2021, with Pattengale producing the contemporary folk duo himself for the first time, stretched into a months- long project that found the pair digging deeper into their craft than ever before. With a new studio of their own in Los Angeles and the realization that they were in no hurry, The Milk Carton Kids took the time they needed to be fully satisfied with I Only See the Moon. The three-time Grammy nominees sound refreshed on 10 new songs distilled to the essence of The Milk Carton Kids: two voices blended together in spellbinding harmony, accompanied by subtly perfect acoustic instrumentation. Turns out that's a tough sound to get just right, but I Only See the Moon shows just how much Pattengale and Ryan were willing to work for it.

I had a great time at the milk carton kids at the paradise rock club! This was my first time at the venue and I was happy with the atmosphere, staff, and ease of entrance. Also shoutout to the young person working the coat check! They were so friendly and efficient at their job.

I could watch this guitar and harmony duo all day. Not at all surprised they packed Paradise Rock Club -- with the right marketing they could easily fill a venue 5x that size in Boston. But it was really special to see them up close. Highly recommend if you get a chance.

Good seats and great sound. Katie Pruitt was a shot in the arm, can’t wait to see where she goes from here. When was the last time an opening act got a standing ovation? Milk Carton Kids alway great harmonies, song writing and stellar guitar playing. Banter fun. The encore was spectacular!

These guys are so incredibly talented and hilarious. This show was essentially part comedy show, part concert, and people were in tears at how funny they are. The music they played was so beautiful and so well performed. I'd see them again and again.

Fantastic show and performances by both the Milk Carton Kids and Katie Pruitt. All three sharing the stage at the end was very special.

I thoroughly enjoyed their Simon-Garfunkel-like harmony. Their special guests, Katie and John, are big bonus, too.

  • Soon to be world famous performing duo.

Joey's and Kenny’s music has been described by some as “Americana”. That description is highly complimentary but too nonspecific. Granted that music like theirs isn’t conceived by musicians in other countries. I’ll try to be more specific. Their creation is balladic, lyrical, rhapsodic. Sweet, balanced, improvisational, inspiring, nuanced, truthful. Virtuosic banjo and guitar playing. Faintest nostalgic tinges of Simon and Garfunkel. Faintest nostalgic tinges of Peter, Paul and Mary together with Katie Pruitt. Always a reminder of Aloha in their music as well. Remember: "Talent does what it can; genius does what it must." Thoroughly enjoyed the show. Harmonies are incredible. I was amazed at the sound that two guitars, two voices and one microphone can produce. Can’t wait until they come back to town.
