About

The Minneapolis-based band Hippo Campus's fourth album Flood is the best album they have ever made. But to arrive at this pivotal point of collective self-confidence, the group of four childhood friends first had to sigh, surrender and start over. They cleaned the slate and dropped all preconceptions of how they thought they had to sound. Less than two weeks later, singer Jake Luppen, guitarist Nathan Stocker, drummer Whistler Allen and bassist Zach Sutton emerged with Flood.

Sitting at the intersection of vulnerability and urgency, the new album filters all-encompassing feelings through the type of absorbing arrangements and massive hooks that can only be pulled off by a group of friends who have been speaking the same musical and emotional language since they were kids. Flood shows how four people connected so intimately for so long can evolve as individuals, while preserving the bond that makes what they do together so special.

I have seen Hippo Campus multiple times, they truly are one of the best live performances you could see. Jake Luppen is an unbelievable lead vocalist and the entire band LOVES playing with each other so much and you can really see it. They have such a unique sound and their music is MEANT TO BE HEARD LIVE! They’re truly one of a kind and I’ve been fortunate to see them perform.

  • LOVE!!

Hippo Campus was AMAZING!!! I was expecting the venue to be a lot larger than it was because it was outdoors, but I was pleasantly surprised at how small it felt. The only issue that we had while at this venue was that there was no structure to the drink line. When we first arrived, it was really hard to figure out where the line ended because it was so long that it mixed in with the actual crowd. Other than that, the music sounded great and the atmosphere was amazing.

  • did not handle storm

by Neila on 6/6/23Leader Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 1 out of 5

I bought covered seats so when it was storming on Friday the 2 I was not worried. The venue advertises rain or shine. So when we were turned away when we tried to enter a few minutes before the concert was supposed to start I was confused. We went elsewhere to get inside from the rain and lightning as we were told to leave. Around 30 minutes later there was a post stating that the show was back on so we headed back to the venue. By the time we made it back there was a huge line, still lightning and thunder, and the opener had already gone on stage. We ended up missing all but two songs and still had to be in the storm. This was unacceptable.

overall enjoyable show. could have been more exciting visually. hippo campus plays good music but needs improvement with their performances. got quite repetitive and boring (while sober).

  • GOAT

Despite the thunderstorm causing a 2 hour delay, the venue, band, staff, crew, and opener all pulled through to deliver one of the best concerts I have ever been to in my life

  • Rain, shine, or Lightning

by Eevee on 6/5/23Leader Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Concert was rain or shine, which makes sense with the venue. There was a huge lightning storm at the time of the concert and it got delayed by an hour. We sat closer to the center and had an amazing time. People closer to the edge got soaked. Amazing venue with clean bathrooms, great layout, and good vibes.

  • Delayed due to storm

by Soggy on 6/5/23Leader Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

The concert was delayed due to lightening. We were promised that we would receive an update from ticketmaster when they would start letting people into the venue. We didn't after sheltering from the rain we came back only to find a massive line and Gus Dapperton had already started. By the time we made it in there were two songs left from Gus Dapperton's set list and we were soaked. Hippo Campus was great, but they seemed rushed due to the delay. There was little engagement with the audience and they flew through songs. I understand it's not their fault and they sounded great. But I wish we received and update from ticketmaster when they were letting people in.

  • Very bad

Terrible performance by main act - was Auto tuned, off beat, and off key, poor event planning and execution and communication with guests Re thunderstorm warnings. Worst concert I’ve been to.
