EMMYLOU HARRIS IN CONCERT:

Throughout her long and storied career in country music, Emmylou Harris' unrestrainable voice has been an unfaltering source of inspiration. As a performer, Emmylou takes a personal tone with her fans, allowing them an intimate glimpse into her world with passionate renditions of classics like "Sweet Dreams" and "To Daddy." As she enters her fifth decade of performing, Emmylou is as radiant as ever, treating fans in 2014 to select dates on her Wrecking Ball Tour with Daniel Lanois.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Alabama-born singer-songwriter Emmylou Harris moved around the South as a child, eventually settling in to the '60s New York folk scene. Soon after, she met the legendary Graham Parsons of the Flying Burrito Brothers, who would become her country mentor. Their collaboration under his tutelage resulted in her major label solo debut Pieces of the Sky, a masterpiece that propelled her to fame. In the ensuing years, she has worked as a solo artist, a backing vocalist, and a duet partner for some of the biggest names in music. Over the course of her decade-spanning career, she has released 26 studio albums and won 13 Grammys.

Her voice is just as breathtaking as it was the first time I heard her in Nashville (maybe 30 years ago?).. I took someone who had never heard her live. The entire band was incredible. Once in a lifetime a voice like Emmylou's comes along.. if you have the chance, go see her..

Fabulous experience - this lady is ageless. Beautiful, stunning, quite the package - this lady at 77 is not only worth every cent and more of my ticket, but it is an extraordinary feat for someone of this age to perform at this level. Well, done, you are an inspiration

  • One of the greats

by Emmy Lou Fan on 9/14/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Emmy Lou Harris and the 5 musicians who shared the stage with her put on a wonderful show. Each is an amazing musician. Her voice at 77 has changed, is not the angelic crystalline voice of the past, but the quality of her performance, the harmonies, the instrumental voices made that a non-issue. She clearly loves what she does, and I hope she will continue to perform and will come to DPAC again.

  • Always a Joy

by Sandy on 9/14/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

At 77, Emmy Lou's voice struggled a bit on the first few numbers, but she got her groove back. Her set list was solid, lots of variety, and the personal memories she shared made the performance memorable. Her band, especially the mandolin player and the keyboardist were outstanding. Since much of her equipment didn't make the trip because of last minute travels problems, they did an excellent job. She thanked the people at DPAC for providing great service and equipment.

The show was great. Emmylou was fantastic, her band was very talented and all of them could play more then one instrument. The acoustics were great and the volume level comfortable. She played for 90 minutes straight with no breaks.
