GWAR IN CONCERT:

When it comes to gory thrash metal spectacle, no other band even comes close to the sick and twisted monstrosity that is GWAR. Taking the stage in gruesomely excellent costumes, the band executes their hilarious metal send-ups with a faux-macabre pageantry that approaches the divine, sacrificing celebrity effigies on stage and dousing entire audiences in fake blood. Whether they're unleashing "The New Plague" or demanding that "Zombies, March!", GWAR put on a show like no other act on earth, and despite longtime frontman David Brockie's recent passing the ever-dedicated band still plans to treat fans to select shows in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Virginia in 1984, GWAR developed an early following with their costumed, prop-filled, spectacle-heavy take on thrash metal. Simultaneously embracing and poking fun at the genre's extremes, the band struck a chord with audiences looking to indulge in metal's excesses without taking them too seriously. Their 1988 debut LP Hell-O was a huge hit in Germany, with subsequent albums like Carnival of Chaos (1997) and We Kill Everything (1999) enjoying considerable success in the US. Over the years, they've landed songs with titles like "Endless Apocalypse" and "War Is All We Know" on charts around the world, an impressive feat for a group of guys who claim the destruction of the human race as their primary goal. In early 2014, GWAR frontman David Brockie was found dead from unknown causes. In a show of tremendous fortitude and strength, the band announced several David Brockie memorial events and still plans to appear at select events throughout the year. Over the course of their career, GWAR have packed venues such as Irving Plaza (NYC), and the Depot (Salt Lake City).

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Gwar rocked, it was fun, the crowd was definitely into it. The pageantry was definitely funny and fun. Be prepared to get covered in blood..."

"If you like metal and have a sick sense of humor, go see them. What a festival of blood, theatrics, and crisply played thrash metal. GWAR was a complete spectacle ."

"GWAR nailed it. Theatrics were well balanced; new album cut is sick. Eagerly awaiting the next show."

  • Gwar is a site to behold.

by Moral on 11/23/24Brooklyn Bowl Nashville - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Once eve couple of years our lords return to kill everyone in nashville. This was no exception, perfect music, murder, mayhem! Would suggest a Gwar show to any one, it’s an experience unlike any other. Can’t wait until they come back again!

  • Disappointing sound quality

by Sam on 11/22/24The Masquerade - Heaven - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

The show was great! I really went to see Dark Funeral and GWAR was just a bonus, but it was fun! I stood in the balcony so that I could see, but the sound quality was trash! Granted, it could be where I was standing, but I couldn’t hear any guitar parts. Sometimes they were halfway through a song before I realized which song it was. I’m a huge Dark Funeral fan, and when I couldn’t even recognize their songs it’s bad.

  • Bucket List band(s) to see

by Mike on 11/22/24The Masquerade - Heaven - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

You saw them on Joan Rivers or Sally Jesse back when your body didnt crack like thin ice. Well pop a few Ibuprofen, get off the couch and see what you have been missing! GWAR is an equal opportunity offender no matter what party you like, so put your offended feelings away and enjoy the world of GWAR! Makes me wish I saw GG Allin or Two Live Crew back in the day. If your age is under a school zone speed limit, Go see GWAR to see how the world was before your parents had their first drink.

  • Loved it!

    by Bohab95 on 11/15/24The Ritz - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Gwar surely knows how to put a show! Awesome energy from the band and the atendees. It's one of those experiences that you need to live at least once as a metalhead.

  • Great show but the restricted spew was a let down

by Robert Hill on 11/13/24The Ritz - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

Gwar put on a great show as usual but they did have a restricted spew that limited the blood to just the mosh pit which was a let down. I'm not sure if this was something the venue told them to do but everything was pointed down at the pit when they shot fluids into the crowd. The sound was actually decent quality for the Ritz.

  • Don’t miss

by Matt on 11/7/24Wally's - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

Best show around no matter what. Even the wife loved it. Won’t be missing the em ever again.

  • Worst performance of Gwar I've ever seen

by Jonnymags on 11/6/24Wally's - HamptonRating: 1 out of 5

Been a Gwar fan since 1990 and witnessed the scumdogs tour and dozens of Oderus shows before his passing, after I was skeptical they could continue but beefcake took up the reins as singer and it worked. At this particular show he was not present and the vocals were performed by various band members instead, paired with poor sound at a venue that normally sounds good and the overall experience was less than impressive.

  • GWAR absolutely kiied it yet again! Literally!

by HommeD on 11/6/24Wally's - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

Going to a GWAR concert is an amazing experience. Being in the very front row is a must to get the full blast of GwarBlood. The music is impressive - these are great musicians and funny as hell story tellers on stage. If you've never been you must at least once in your lifetime. We saw Duran Duran on Saturday and GWAR on Sunday. Duran was fun, but that was a one off. I'll see GWAR any time they're in town.

  • GWAR lives!

by Ozzy on 11/5/24Empire Live - AlbanyRating: 5 out of 5

Despite Blothar being absent due to a passing in his human slave's family, the rest of the Scumdogs pulled it together and alternated singing duties. Grodius in particular destroyed Bring Back The Bomb but the whole band was amazing throughout. Blood seems to have had issues during the first song or two but it got quickly fixed and the crowd was appropriately spewed upon. The story and the killings\decapitations for this tour were incredible and there were A LOT of them. As always, GWAR puts on an absolutely fantastic can't miss splatterfest of a show. GWAR lives!
