Legendary New York-bred singer-songwriter Billy Joel has toured only sporadically in recent years, but fans have plenty of opportunities to score tickets to see him in concert going forward -- if they're willing to head out to New York's Madison Square Garden. Joel signed an open-ended deal with MSG that will have him playing a concert at the venue once per month for as long as there's demand. And demand has never been a problem for Joel at he historic New York venue; he played his first show there in 1978, and had logged 46 concerts at the arena by 2013.
New York isn't alone in its love for the singer. Joel has long been established as one of the top-grossing touring artists in the U.S., and has sold more than 150 million records over the course his four-decade career. After recording a long string of hits including "Piano Man," "New York State of Mind," "Just the Way You Are," "You May Be Right," "Pressure," "Uptown Girl," "We Didn't Start the Fire," and "The River of Dreams," Joel decided that he was done writing pop and rock songs. It's a decision he's stuck with; it's been more than 20 years since he's recorded a new pop or rock album. He's composed new classical material instead, while continuing to play songs from his catalog in concert.

Our original tickets were for September. That concert rescheduled to December, unfortunately, we had a death in the family. Finally booked tickets for February 22. We understand that there has to be a varying playlist, but there were 3 obscure songs that the majority of people did not respond or like.
Loved him and will definitely see him again!! Such a great entertainer
We came all the way from Holland to see Mr. Billy Joel he played great song after great song
The show was fantastic......back up musicians super talented. Background set changes were cool. Billy Joel played a vast and varied selection of his greatest hits - of which there are many. He gave some multiple choice options to the audience and that was fun. There was a wide range of ages among the spectators as his appeal is not limited to one generation. The vibe and energy of the crowd was palpable. Thoroughly enjoyed this show! Incomparable talent!
The show was fantastic. Billy Joel sang for over 2 hours without a break. All your favorites and then some. Close your eyes and you're transported back to the 70s and 80s. He's funny when he interacts with the audience. He sang 5 songs for the Encore!! Wonderful show!! Love him.
Can't wait to see the show again! Lots of fun!!! Excellent night!
We left the show half way through. The first half of the concert Billy came off like a curmudgeon who was under court orders to sing to us. He complained about other bands. He cursed a lot and not in a witty way, more like he was the angry uncle at Easter dinner complaining about the neighbors. When he sang, he projected no emotion. I saw him play MSG 10 years ago and it was a completely different experience. I've attend many concerts over the last 20 yrs, bands like Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Rush, Train, Taylor Swift, U2, and 21 Pilots, to name just a few. This was the worst concert I have ever been to.
Excellent! Would go again! Recommend highly! Outstanding performer for all ages!
What can I say? Billy Joel is a consummate artist. He puts on a fun spontaneous show with ease (or it seems so). Each show is different...we've seen him before in this series and it would be worth it to see every single one! Love you Billy!!!
It sounded even better than a Billy Joel album! He sounded and looked great!
Billy Joel's performance was outstanding! My family loved the show from beginning to end. The musicians were at par with him allowing every song to come alive during the show. It was perfection at its best, he was so entertaining, finding for many opportunities to interact with the audience; which brings me to his way of giving the audience a choice for best song to be performed. He and his piano also had a 360 degree view of the audience. Madison Square Garden that night was magical!
We never sat down! What a great entertainer BILLY JOEL is!
This was amongst the best concerts I have attended (others being Queen and Rod Stewart). We arrived at Madison Square Garden at 7:30 which gave us time to get a very expensive beer (even by UK stadium prices) and wander to our seats. My first thought upon seeing the arena was that it wasn't as big as I'd imagined. We were sitting in 'side view' seats and had a great view of Billy Joel throughout the whole concert. This was helped by the rotating piano which ensured that he played to the 360 degree audience. The sound quality was exceptional. The concert lasted an amazing 2.5 hours which was incredible and it was only after the fourth song of the encore that I think he'd had enough ! He played most of his own big hits with a couple of covers thrown in which the crowd loved - he even gave the audience a choice of songs. He had a great rapport and joked with the audience, a couple got engaged, we had a rendition of Nessun Dorma, superb instrumental solos and by the end had sore feet from dancing and throats from singing but couldn't have been happier - a fantastic way to celebrate a 50th birthday !
He choose the end to bring out his best songs which made it even more incredible. He let the audience choose one (though I would have choosen the other) and they had some great Billy swag!!!
Last 2 hours were much more entertaining and energetic than the first 30 min or so. Powerhouse second half. Then the BEST exit by a performer ever! His car was waiting behind the backdrop facing into the street. The backdrop opened. The arena lights came on. The arena door to the street opened. "Good night, New Orleans, I love you." Got in his car and basically drove off his own stage, like a badass. I must say. I was pretty impressed. An exit that both Crocket and Tubbs would approve of.
Billy Joel was so awesome. He and his band gave 1,000,000%%%%!! It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to.
What an awesome concert! The Piano Man has definitely still got it. Over two hours of music.
Billy Joel has always been one of my favorites and have seen him a number of times. Was looking very forward to this show. Overall the performance was very good, he was in good voice and the band outstanding. My major issue were the number of other than Billy Joel songs hedid. Being that the concert was in New Orleans Joel did a number of songs that related to our city. But he did 10 overall in a 2 hour and 25 minute concert. Almost 50% of the songs he did were covers taking about a huge amount of time. He easily could have cut the number of covers in half. Missing from the show was Miami 2017 (The Nights The Lights Went Out on Broadway), The Ballad of Billy the Kid, Angry Young Man and others. He even put Just The Way You Are and Vienna up for a vote of the audience. The audience chose Vienna. ???. He did not play, which in my opinion, was his first big hit. Looking at the playlist before the show in New Orleans seemed like the show I wanted to see. I hope when he come to your town he does that setlist, not the one he did in New Orleans.
This was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. He played a lot of covers of New Orleans or Louisiana style songs as segways into his own songs, which was great. This was my first time seeing Billy Joel and he did not disappoint because it was great. Of course he could have played some more songs, but he played for well over 2 hours, and he said "you know you have to make choices as I can't play everything and every hit", because he has so many great hits and songs. I hope he can still come back in a few years, I'll go again. Did I mention he was great!
