About

THE O'JAYS IN CONCERT:

When it comes to classy, color-coordinated, old-school soul showmanship, nobody can touch the O'Jays. Taking the stage in matching suits to perform beloved classics from their decade-spanning catalog, the debonair trio never fails to transport audiences back to the good old days of "Love Train" and "For the Love of Money." Hot off the heels of their 2013 induction into the R&B Music Hall of Fame, the O'Jays will treat fans to several highly anticipated appearances in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Ohio in 1958, The O'Jays experienced moderate success throughout the '60s with a string of minor hits like "Lonely Drifter" and  "Lipstick Traces." On the verge of calling it quits in the early '70s, the band finally got their big break after signing to Philadelphia International for their platinum-selling 1972 single "Back Stabbers." The song established them as a key player in the Philadelphia soul movement, a funk-infused brand of soul that pioneered many of the elements later adopted by disco. A string of hits would follow throughout the '70s, including epochal No. 1 smash "Love Train," creating a legacy the band continues to honor today with their spirited performances on tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"They sounded great and put on a really great show. They sang all of their popular songs, ending with For the Love of Money...which brought the house down. Everyone was on their feet, dancing and singing and really enjoying the show."

"This was a great show. They performed their old-school moves and wore matching outfits, something you don't see with ‘newer’ performers."

"The show was awesome. The O'Jays took me down memory lane and back. The show was attended by ages 20-80 and all had a great time."

  • Was not impressed

by Me on 10/20/24Arie Crown Theater - ChicagoRating: 1 out of 5

I wish I had saw them when they were YOUNG Cause Eddie Levert was complaining he was fatter now was uncomfortable w/suit coat button He sat in a chair all night. I understand he has been performing a long time but when people pay their money we expect a performance so RETIRE it you aren't feeling it anymore

  • Amazing Show!

by Mz Lori on 10/17/24Rating: 5 out of 5

This show was a really great one! The lineup was awesome. The venue was perfect for the crowd and I was excited to see so many millennials. I took my mother and she was taken on a trip down memory lane. She is still telling everyone how great the show was and what a great time she had. Bravo!👏🏽

It was cool, they didn't sing a couple of their biggest hits but it's alright. Nevertheless enjoyed myself.

  • The groups were good but the sound system was lousy

by CJ on 10/16/24Arie Crown Theater - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The sound system kept cutting in and out. Need to fix it. Also, it would be great if you had screens so we can see the groups better

  • The Best of Old School

by Jonsie on 10/16/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed the show from start to finish. Big Alex O'Neal fan, he and Cherrell were great on their own and together. The remaining Whisper's sounded the same as yesterday. Always entertaining. If Eddie LeVert hadn't needed to sit you wouldn't have known anything had changed with the O'Jays. So appreciative of a mature audience. The entertainment was okay saying "we've aged"as the audience had too. We still listen to their music at home. My husband and I have been to many concerts in the past featuring these same artists and I knew we had to see them again. I was nearly in tears, the music is so much a part of my past. J. Anthony Brown did a excellent job as host. He was hilarious!!! I thanked God for being able to be there.

  • Exceptional!!! Must See!

by Nhy on 10/15/24Arie Crown Theater - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

It was such a wonderful experience, they all sound exactly the same. The band is great and I would 1000% recommend seeing them before they retire. My only complaint is that they didn't perform Cry Together but with so many hits, they can't do every song. It was a great show.

  • All that I expected and more!!!

by SEW on 10/15/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was the best! Cherrelle and Alexander O'Neal opened it up with their hits on their own and as a duo. I love If You Were Here Tonight by Alexander O'Neal, plus he was kinda funny. Then the Whispers came and brought it sounding just like they did years ago. Then the main act the Mighty, Mighty O'Jays!! I love all their songs and they didn't disappoint as they sang all or most of their hits. They didn't try to change up the songs but sang them just like they were sang back in the day. I was really glad to see Eddie Levert...I love his gravelly voice. He and Walter still sound the same. They may not be able to do all the fancy footwork like they did in the 70's but hey, neither can I :D They took me back to my youth and I loved it.
