Buffalo Bills Team History

The Buffalo Bills became the seventh team to join the American Football League when Ralph C. Wilson was awarded the franchise in 1959. In 1964 and 1965, the Bills won the AFC Championship, and then-Head Coach Lou Saban was named AFL Coach of the Year for both seasons. After Marv Levy took over as Head Coach in 1986, the Bills won five AFC championships and made four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from 1990–1993. To date, the Bills are the only team to play in four consecutive Super Bowl games.

Since hiring Head Coach Sean McDermott in January 2017, the Bills have made five playoff appearances. In 2022, the Bills made playoff history in a game against the Patriots when they became the first team in the Super Bowl era to score a touchdown on each of its first seven drives of a playoff game.

Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium

Since opening in 1973, Highmark Stadium, located in Orchard Park, New York, has been the home to the Buffalo Bills. The stadium underwent several name changes; known as Ralph Wilson Stadium from 1998 to 2015, it was renamed New Era Field in 2016, then Bills Stadium in 2020. Following a new naming rights deal in 2021, its official name is now Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Stadium.

A visit to Highmark Stadium for a Buffalo Bills game is sure to be a loud and high-energy experience, as the team’s fanbase, the Bills Mafia, is arguably the most loyal in the NFL. The group got its start in November 2010 following the upset from a dropped pass by receiver Stevie Johnson that could have resulted in a game-winning touchdown. The hashtag #BillsMafia caught wind on Twitter, and since then the group has been known for their tailgating antics and game-day attire and energy.

  • Frustrating

by Sue on 11/20/24Highmark Stadium - Orchard ParkRating: 2 out of 5

We had to seek help finding one of the tickets for two events. We had 8 tickets for Sebastian Maniscalco one of which we could not find. And two for Bills game and the tech who helped us said he has never encountered this issue.

  • Could have been so much better

Went the game with my family. There was 8 of us. Five of our tickets were hacked and sold to someone else. We missed part of the game and couldn't sit together. If I could give you negative stars I would.

Lovely experience Izzy to use I’d rather buy tickets from here, but I know I’m getting what I’m paying for and I get trained when I get to the line

  • Enjoyed Return of the Blue & Red Event

by Jon on 8/9/24Highmark Stadium - Orchard ParkRating: 4 out of 5

If you have an opportunity to attend this FREE scrimmage in future years, take advantage of it. Cost in 2024 was $5 for parking, plus any concessions or souvenirs you bought. Our seats were in the 300 section, but it was general admission so if you can get there early you can get a seat that gives you a side view of the entire field. Highlights: Seeing Josh Allen walk around the entire perimeter of the field that bordered the stands and gently toss a football back and forth with fans in stands. If you were one of those lucky fan you could say, “I caught a pass from Josh Allen.” Also, it was interesting to watch the different position groups warm up and run through drills. If you didn’t go to St. John Fisher for training camp this was perhaps your first opportunity to see 2024 free agent signings and draft picks in action. Josh came out onto the field with a black helmet with a red standing buffalo logo, super cool. The mood was really fun and positive. (36,000 in attendance) My wife uses a cane, and we were able to get a handicapped parking spot right next to the entrance where they scan your ticket. We also were able to get an elevator ride up to the level where our seats were, saved a lot of walking. I guess there were giveaways and other activities going on in and near the field house but we came to see the scrimmage and the players, so mission accomplished getting excited for the new season. Lowlights: It was a slightly rainy day, but we can’t control the weather. Also, traffic in and out of the stadium was a nightmare, but I think it always is on game days (even though it wasn’t an actual game it had a similar vibe). Concessions were pricey ($17 for a tall boy beer or cocktail). We elected to eat afterward, not in the stadium These are the only reasons I had to ding my score down to four stars. Overall- well worth your time and super fun chance to see your favorite team. Not often you can get FREE tickets to something involving the Buffalo Bills. Go if you have the chance in future years.

  • Nice Crowd

It was mostly a normal practice. Josh went around the stadium throwing passes to kids. T-Shirts were thrown into the stands. Nice experience.

  • First time for grandsons

by Tina on 8/6/24Highmark Stadium - Orchard ParkRating: 4 out of 5

It was great to be able to show my 3 grandsons the stadium. They enjoyed it very much. However getting into the lot was horrible. We were in line on Southwestern for at least an hour even after the lots had been open for an hour. We missed the beginning when the team entered the stadium.
