Minnesota Timberwolves History
The Timberwolves joined the NBA in the 1989 expansion that also brought the Orlando Magic into the league. The Wolves struggled during their first seven seasons, but the arrivals of first-round draft pick Kevin Garnett, general manager Kevin McHale and head coach Flip Saunders signaled a turnaround. The franchise earned its first playoff berth in the 1996–97 season — the first of eight straight years in the postseason — and its first winning record a year later.
In the 1999–00 season, led by Garnett and rookie Wally Szczerbiak, the Timberwolves posted their first 50-win season, the first of three straight years they reached that milestone. But it was not until the last year in that streak that they advanced past the first round of the playoffs.
With guards Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell joining the Timberwolves for the 2003–04 season, the team won their first division title and first two postseason series, eliminating the Denver Nuggets and the Sacramento Kings. They ultimately fell to the Los Angeles Lakers in the conference finals.
After Garnett was traded away in 2007, the team rebuilt around all-star Kevin Love, but failed to make the playoffs during his tenure in Minnesota. They ended a 13-year drought without a playoff appearance by finishing 47-35 in the 2017–18 season, good for second place in the Northwest Division. In 2024, All-Star center Rudy Gobert earned the franchise’s first Defensive Player of the Year Award, while backup center Naz Reid won the Sixth Man of the Year Award.

As the Minnesota Timberwolves play their fourth decade at Target Center, the arena is much-changed from the building that first hosted the young franchise in 1990. The Target Center has undergone three significant renovations over the years. The last round of upgrades were unveiled at the outset of the 2017–18 season, with a newer exterior and a three-story atrium over a new entrance, home to the iconic statue of George Mikan.

It was a fun experience, much more personal than the bigger arena, which is appealing to not as big of fans or fans who are just getting into it. Definitely a bang for your buck and reaches people who cannot access professional sports as easily
The ticket fees cost as much as one of our tickets so I think you are too expensive
Was a good event, but promotions/relations could have had a program for fans. For many attendees this is only NBA exposure and with very little knowledge of players. I knew superstars, but other players? Maybe a generic Timberwolves program with visiting team insert?
First time watching a basketball game in Hilton Coliseum! Definitely a great time with my friends!

We ended up with some really good seats even though we found about the event late.
The game was entertaining and well done. The hype men were fun and they showed a lot of people grooving it up in the crowds. Fun to have such a big team on our Ames grounds!
Venue was ill-prepared to deal with the crowd. They did not open the doors early enough and the crowd was left standing in the rain. They were unable to get the fans in the building in a timely manner and we missed tip-off and the first 7 minutes of the game. Signage and direction from employees was poor. Nowhere on the ticket did it say you had to carry a clear bag. At one door they were turning (mostly) females away to return purses to cars; at another door they checked non-clear bags and let them through. Why was Wells Fargo, the home of the Iowa Wolves, not the venue? A very disappointing experience, especially after the great times we have had at Wells Fargo for other pre-season NBA and WNBA games, and regular season NBA-D games. We felt like our time and money was wasted at this game.
Though it was a cool product on the floor, the size of the crowd severely impacted the event experience. Tickets should have been sold at a more reasonable price range considering it was a Wednesday night with teams who don't hold a ton of draw in Nebraska. Also, there was very little marketing done on the event. When I asked people if they were planning on going, a number of individuals who would be considered fringe NBA fans were not even aware that the game was happening. All in all, I hope Pinnacle Bank brings more events like this, I just hope for a better turnout next time.
It was boring compared to Bulls preseason last year. No DJ, no last show or any light effects. The jumbotron had no hype video. The Bills game was like you were in Chicago.
