New York Islanders History

The New York Islanders, also known as the Isles, celebrated 50 years as a franchise during the 2022-2023 season. The New York Islanders took the ice for the first time in 1972 and forged one of sports' greatest dynasties less than a decade after the franchise's inception. The New York Islanders are one of only two NHL teams to win four straight Stanley Cup Championships, and their legendary run of 19 straight playoff series victories remains unmatched in professional sports.

GM Bill Torrey's brilliant drafting during the 1970s stocked the Islanders roster with some of the game's greatest players. Defenseman Denis Potvin, right wing Mike Bossy, center Bryan Trottier, goaltender Billy Smith, and left wing Clark Gillies powered the dynasty and went on to the Hall of Fame. Coach Al Arbour joined Torrey and his five players in the Hall of Fame after finishing his career fourth all-time in wins. New York Islanders legends Butch Goring, Bob Nystrom, and John Tonelli are also forever enshrined on the rafters at UBS Arena.

New York Islanders at UBS Arena

Opened in 2021 as the new home of the Islanders, UBS Arena sits in Belmont Park — between Montauk and Manhattan — and is the only arena in Metro New York that was built for hockey. The New York Islanders played their first games at UBS Arena in the 2021-2022 season. The design of the arena is inspired by iconic New York landmarks, including Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, and the Park Avenue Armory. It also features the largest arena scoreboard in New York State.

  • Good team , bad parking

by JR on 1/6/25UBS Arena - Belmont ParkRating: 4 out of 5

The team played hard, it was an entertaining game. Unfortunately they lost. The arena is first class all the way, many food options. Only drawback is the parking, way too far from the arena. If the parking improves, I would consider going more often.

  • Perfect except for food/beverage prices

    by Special1! on 1/5/25UBS Arena - Belmont ParkRating: 4 out of 5

UBS Arena is so well organized and safe. Plenty of security and help. Great transportation options with train right there, shuttles or even walking the lovely path. Comfy seats. Clean bathrooms, and options for good and drinks. Lines move quickly. My only issue is the prices of the food and drink- astronomical in my opinion. Should be allowed to bring your own also nice that there are souvenir stores and the entertainment is wonderful throughout

  • Great experience

by Ray on 11/27/24UBS Arena - Belmont ParkRating: 4 out of 5

You had a great experience overall. My only annoyance was when receiving the tickets via mobile, it's annoying to actually get the code. They make you transfer it to Google wallet. Which is just an extra step of annoyance. It was so much easier when you can just print out the ticket.

Went to a concert at Barkley Center last month, and am reminded how great it is to be at UBS. Let's support our Isles.

  • Stanley Cup Playoffs

by Laurie on 4/30/24UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long IslandRating: 5 out of 5

We went for the Hurricanes/Islanders playoff game on Saturday and had a great time. Even though we were rooting for the other team, everyone working, including inside the pro shop was extremely friendly and helpful. The venue was very nice and pretty easy to get to. The Cross Island sucks, but that is not the fault of the team or the venue. Parking was straightforward and free shuttle was provided. Walking was also nice under a covered walkway, about 10 minutes. Entry into the venue was very fast even though I had a bag, although we did get there extra early to watch the teams warmup. Overall the experience was positive, and I would like to go back, but it's location poses a huge inconvenience for me
