Philadelphia 76ers History

The Philadelphia 76ers were one of the league's first franchises. Founded in 1946 and playing their first NBA season in 1949, the team was introduced as the Syracuse Nationals and played home games in upstate New York.

After moving to Philadelphia in 1963 and adopting the 76ers moniker in honor of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in the city in 1776, the team has had a prominent history featuring several players who would go on to be inducted into the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame: Dolph Schayes, Hal Greer, Wilt Chamberlain, Billy Cunningham, Bobby Jones, Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, Moses Malone, Charles Barkley, and Allen Iverson.

The 76ers have made 52 playoff appearances and earned nine trips to the NBA Finals, winning three World Championships. Chamberlain, Erving, Malone, Iverson and Joel Embiid have all also been named the NBA Most Valuable Player while playing for the 76ers, for a total of seven MVP awards. In 2024, Tyrese Maxey collected the franchise’s second Most Improved Player Award after Dana Barros in 1995.

The Philadelphia 76ers organization is part of the Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment ownership group.

  • Everything was great except…

by Brad on 12/23/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

We had a great time once we got into the game. Moving from 95 to the parking lot took 70 minutes and we missed the whole first half. Venue was fun!

  • Sixers

by Nate on 11/16/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

I had a great time at the Sixers game. Getting to the stadium was easy right off of the highway. The new parking system was quick and efficient. Ticket master saved right to my and made it easy to access the stadium.

  • Tight

by Hec on 11/15/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 2 out of 5

Thought by paying more and being lower to the stadium the seats would be better. They were terrible. So uncomfortable. Worse than airlines with tightness. Will never sit there again. I’d rather but revrow or stand. I was section 117 Row 21. Waste of money

We had a wonderful time at the game. Parking was costly but close to the venue which is always a plus. The food and Beer costly as well over all the 3 of us had a joyful time even though the 76ers lost

  • 76ers Review

    by awrght05 on 11/3/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

This was the 1st time that my family and I had attended a NBA basketball game. It was a great experience. Great music, great half time show and comfortable seating. The asisle in front of the seats are very narrow. A man feel on me and my child while trying to get to his seat. Besides being fallen on the game was great.

  • Fun fun!

by Scott on 11/2/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Great experience watching the sixers play. Outside of the over priced food and expensive tickets I would give it 2 thumbs up!

  • Where are their Superstars ?

by Disapointing. on 11/2/24Wells Fargo Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

Two of their three superstars have not played yet this year. Just one is not enough. The 76ers played well the first half, but they ran out of gas and lost to an inferier team.
