Sacramento Kings History
The Sacramento Kings' lineage traces to Rochester, New York, where they played under four names, including the Royals, for 12 years (1945–57). Led by Hall of Famers Bob Davies, Bobby Wanzer and Arnie Risen, the team defeated the New York Knicks to win the NBA championship in 1951, the highlight of a seven-year run in the playoffs.
The Royals moved to Cincinnati for the 1957–58 season and added local college standout Oscar Robertson in 1960. Led by the "Big O," they advanced to the division finals in the 1962–63 and 1963–64 seasons, with the second year featuring contributions from Rookie of the Year Jerry Lucas.
After a five-year run of futility in the late 1960s and early '70s, the team relocated to Kansas City, adopting the name the Kings because the city's MLB team was named the Royals. For three years, the franchise divided its home games between Kansas City and Omaha, Nebraska, and were known as the Kansas City-Omaha Kings. Led by Coach of the Year Phil Johnson, they made the playoffs in 1974–75. In the 10 seasons that followed as the Kansas City Kings, the team made the playoffs four times, most memorably in 1980–81 behind guard Otis Birdsong.
The franchise relocated to Sacramento in 1985, but failed to post a winning record until the lockout-shortened 1998–99 season, when a team led by Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Vernon Maxwell, Scot Pollard, and Jon Barry went 27-23. It was the first of eight consecutive seasons in the playoffs, highlighted by a trip to the 2002 Conference Finals.
In 2023, under new coach Mike Brown and All-Stars Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox, the Kings advanced to the playoffs, ultimately losing in the first round to reigning NBA champions the Golden State Warriors in a close seven-game series. Brown was named the 2022–23 season’s Coach of the Year, while Fox collected the league’s first Clutch Player of the Year Award.

The Kings game was so fun! It’s fun watching on tv, but so much more going on at the game. Cheering “our team” to a big win was memorable! 💕
Using the tickets at the game was easy and I like that you get a game day email powered by Ticketmaster about the event. The Kings game was very fun and it was easy to find our seats! The one thing that bothered me was that I was the only person in a wheelchair that I saw in our wheelchair seat section.
First of all, the night was properly staffed. Food quality was great, had the Pastrami and fries and chocolate soft serve ice cream. You are desperately in need of more dessert items. Candy, one kind of donut and 2 flavors of soft serve. Cake, cookies, mini pies needed. Center is always clean.
KEM is a must see entertainer. He has been around for a couple of decades or more.I had never listened to him.Now I'm a listener .Great Artist,Great Show
The Golden 1 Center is not as big as Chase Center, but definitely as comfortable and enjoyable. The game was exciting and the fans were passionate, glad to be there to see Fox score 49 right after his 60 scores game.
Great game! Even though I didn’t see my team win it was overall a joy to be there and see the kings compete hard. I’ve been going to the arena for awhile now that I love all the seatings. In my opinion there is not one bad seat.
Fun to see the Kings, but the venue is to strict. Clear bags should be good. 6x4x1 is ridiculous. Not sure I would go bag due to stringent bag policy.
Why people that sits on the upper part had to always just look at people in the lower floor getting all the freebies?? Don’t we all pay to watch and support the team ?? Not everyone has enough money to pay high prices sits, but we should all be treated with equal appreciation. What about doing some raffles based on the entrance ticket to get some freebies?
The kings are a tower of talents and charisma .attitudes of pure game and professionalism guided by talented coaches .i believe its near to conquer let’s go get them Kings !
Ticketmaster was very easy to get tickets Kings didn’t play well though but it’s ok we had fun
What a super fun opening evening for the entire family!
golden 1 is nice venue love to keep coming back, parking is easy , food id great
We love going to the Golden 1 Center to see the Kings play.
This venue has great energy. We will be back. However next time we will be level 1. Level 2 is way too steep. There should be a large disclaimer when purchasing level 2 seats.
This event is great fantastic, Long lines is normal ….. only next time need to come coupe hours before because is hard to get my parking …. I’m ready buy my parking space there close but the event or police closes all street conduce my parking …. But everything is fine …. Get exactly at time but inside is great , bath super clean , vendors very jives and friendly….. all staff is great and the game fantastic….
I took my son to see a Warriors and Kings game for the first time. He had so much fun. The staff was very helpful and everything was extremely organized. The restrooms were very clean and every stand had different items to purchase. We were super happy Warriors won!
Had a great time was at the very top of the stadium but they even had peeps come throw shirts to that area which was pretty cool! Hard to hear tho from that section. Not sure if they need more speakers or just from being at the top and the acoustics.
Had a terrible time thinking I overpaid overcharged. I could have gotten better seats much cheaper price. The very next day. I received a message saying act fast tickets are selling fast.
I live in downtown so I love being able to live close to the golden ones Center, Arena and be able to enjoy great Games and make great memories with family attending the Sacramento Kings game. My family and enjoy the whole experience. Can’t wait for the next game. Want to thank everybody for the hard work making it possible. Let’s go Sacramento Kings.
Hello, thank you for hosting hello kitty night for all the fanatics!! Next time make sure you have enough cups and items for the stations if you had 17k bags you should’ve had 17k souvenir cups etc other than that it could’ve been more hello kitty giveaway things and activities and hello kitty food options the email was very misleading especially for the money that was spent basically we just got free bags and the doors opened at 4:30 and everything was out and long lines . Do better next time thank you !
