Toronto Raptors History

The Toronto Raptors were founded in 1995 as part of the NBA's expansion into Canada. The Raptors have been the only NBA team based in Canada since the 2001–02 season. After acquiring eight-time All-Star Vince Carter in 1998, the Raptors set league-wide attendance records and made the playoffs from 2000 to 2002. Led by Carter, the Raptors earned their first playoff series win in 2001 and advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Raptors didn't return to the playoffs until the 2006–07 season, when they won the Atlantic Division title. After Masai Ujiri joined as the team's General Manager in 2013, the Raptors became a consistent playoff team, winning five division titles and having their most successful season in 2018. The following year, during the 2019 playoffs, the Raptors earned their first Eastern Conference title and went on to win their first NBA championship, defeating the Warriors in 6 games.

They need to do better in getting people into the arena. Extremely congested

  • first Raptors game

I recently was in Toronto and my wife and kids were at the T.Swift concert so i decided to take in a Raptors game... the overall experience was great however the seats we had were obstructed witch is what brings down my star rating the food was decently priced but only average in taste nothing to really write home about.... hopefully if i am ever able to get back to Toronto from Winnipeg again the next experience will be better.... not really what i had in mind for a first game experience.... I wish the raptors good luck for the rest of the season.

  • Great event and entertaining atmosphere

by Dad on 11/18/24Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Entertainment and fan engagement are well done. Only reason it’s not a five star review is the absolutely insane cost of concessions. $10.50 for a bag of chips?! $18 for a beer?! If the wages of the typical job had increased as much as the bloated salaries of these professional athletes over the past 20-25 years it might not be an issue, but the insanely rich getting even richer off the backs of everyone else doesn’t sit very well. I’ll plan to enjoy a game or two in the coming years, but never will I invest or believe this business provides any value other than to fill the pockets of the ultra rich.

  • Loved every moment!

I was so excited to go to the Scotia Bank Arena to see Vince Carter get his number raised to the rafters. It couldn’t have been more exciting and the memories that it brought back from the years yeats gone by will remain in my heart.

  • Fun Game Experience, Uncomfortable Seat

by PCC on 10/27/24Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

enjoyed the 2024 Raptor’s home opener. great atmosphere, event sold out but lines not too long for food/drink. Raptors have work to do this season but always fun watching pro sports live! My only criticism is the seat I had was very uncomfortable. Sat in Sec 117, Row 14 and my knees were jammed into the seatback in front of me. I am 6’1” so not a super tall person. one of my legs was so sore that I had to leave at halftime. other leg was a little more comfortable as the person on my right was a child so i had a bit more room. Perhaps other sections have more legroom but very disappointed that I couldn’t stay and watch the whole game.
