Vancouver Canucks History

The Vancouver Canucks started play in 1970, entering the league along with the Buffalo Sabres. Vancouver has been to the Stanley Cup Final on three occasions, though they lost to the New York Islanders in 1982, the New York Rangers in 1994 and the Boston Bruins in 2011.

Despite humble beginnings, the Canucks continued to develop. With the arrival of three key players — Captain Trevor Linden, netminder Kirk McLean, and "the Russian Rocket" Pavel Bure, the Canucks had a winning Playoff run season — making it to the 1994 finals.

The Canucks continued to acquire superstars like Alexander Mogilny and Markus Näslund, and while the following years meant a series of losses, it allowed for the team to draft Henrik and Daniel Sedin, who would go on to lead the Canucks to Presidents' Trophies in back-to-back seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, as well as their finals appearance in 2011.

Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena

The Vancouver Canucks play their home games at the 475,000-square foot Rogers Arena, which also played host to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games where Sidney Crosby scored the “Golden Goal.” A staple of downtown Vancouver, the Canucks played their first game at the arena on October 9, 1995. Other notable events that have taken place at the arena include the 1998 NHL All-Star Game, 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and in October 2002 when Queen Elizabeth II dropped the ceremonial first puck during an NHL exhibition game between the Canucks and San Jose Sharks. Additionally, the arena played host to Games 1, 2, 5, and 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.

    I took my friend who last watched a Canucks Game 9 years ago vs Calgary , since then he lost his vision and is legally blind ... He could not stop raving about the staff at Roger Arena from the Host Security at the team store to gate 16 entrance to the host that escorted us to back of house to our seats 122 wheelchair to the staff working in that area and the gentlemen that gave my friend a Canucks Puck.. So happy to witness my friend have the experience he had that Tuesday evening..

    It was cool as an American hockey fan to be in the arena and hear the Canadian fans sing their anthem in person. The bathroom situation-hard to find-in my area was odd but beer was reasonably priced compared to my California teams.

    Didn’t know what to expect with Section 308 but it was awesome! The view was great and the jumbotron was massive. Way bigger than when I went to a game a few years ago. The hype team added great energy to the room. I look forward to going to another game in the near future.

    This was my first NHL game the bonus was that Vancouver won. The biggest problem was people drink to much and have to get up go to the bathroom a lot. Which distracts you from the game, I went to watch the game not to get drunk. I think the people selling alcohol should limit the amount they sell to people. But overall it was a good experience.

    We had great seats, but went we got to the stadium our seats were given to the team doctors and we got worse seats.
