UPDATED: Koch Media has confirmed to Develop that Fishlabs is now part of its games group.
The publisher and distributor is taking over the studio’s team, as well as all assets and brands, of Fishlabs Entertainment. This includes the Galaxy on Fire series and the firm’s Abyss game engine.
Koch MD Klemens Kundratitz says this is a key move in his company’s efforts to ramp up its involvement in mobile gaming.
"The mobile gaming market is strategically important to Koch Media," he said. "These days, games are played anytime and anywhere – both at home and on the go. The know-how and brands which Fishlabs brings along give us the expertise required in order to establish ourselves in this exciting field for the long term."
ORIGINAL STORY: Koch Media is believed to be the new owner of mobile developer Fishlabs, the studio behind the Galaxy on Fire series.
It was reported earlier today that Fishlabs has been acquired by an unnamed party, but multiple sources suggest the new owner is no longer anonymous.
German news sites Newsslash and GamesMarket.de both claim that Koch Media is the mysterious investor behind Fishlabs’ acquisition.
The reports suggest that all 52 Fishlabs employees will be retained but, as reported early, founded Michael Schade and Christian Lohr will leave the firm.
Fishlabs filed for bankruptcy back in October and laid off 25 staff.
Develop has contacted Koch Media for confirmation.
