British mobile developer Hutch is crossing the pond and opening a new office in Nova Scotia, Canada, the company announced.
The racing developer behind free-to-play hit Hot Wheels: Race Off (pictured) already has a London and a Brighton office and is now moving to Canada to broaden its capabilities and increase output potential, allowing Hutch to work across various time zones,” the announcement said.
The firm didn’t say which projects the new office will be working on, but said it will focus on software engineering initially, but more roles across wider disciplines will be created in the future.” Hutch appointed CTO and co-founder Sean Turner as studio head of Hutch Canada.
CEO Shaun Rutland commented: Our global expansion responds to the demand for new, high quality and refreshing games, which give audiences a thrill wherever they are. We’ve moved up a gear and the expansion will support the various projects currently in the works, allowing us to accelerate our development process and tap into a wealth of local talent. This expansion of capabilities will see us bring a number of new titles to market, keeping our racing loving fans fueled with new and exciting games.”
New studio head Sean Turner added: I am delighted to be spearheading the operations of Hutch in Canada, supporting the team with additional software development resource to help bring our visions to reality. We now have access to a fantastic talent pool in Nova Scotia, and we’re all looking forward to building the Hutch family further to continue our work on creating leading edge mobile racing games.”
Laurel Broten, president and CEO at Nova Scotia Business (NSBI) said: Nova Scotia has competitive advantages in gaming and interactive media. At NSBI, we work to match our region’s great talent with great new companies. Our work is hands-on, helping our clients optimize their operations through a Nova Scotia location, and we are excited to be part of Hutch’s growth.”
This move follows Hutch raising $5.5m (4.2m) of investment earlier this year from Index Ventures and Backed VC.
