Days Gone holds onto No.1 spot with solid second week

Sony’s Days Gone holds the top spot in the charts for a second week running – as does the entire of the top four titles this month.

Days Gone, despite a muted critical reception only dropped 60 per cent of its week one sales, which isn’t too bad considering the lack of buzz around the game. To put that in comparison it’s exactly the same drop as the much-beloved Horizon Zero Dawn had in its second week on sale. Though that titles had clocked up 58 per cent more sales by this point in its life. That aside, Days Gone looks to have longer legs than we had supposed a couple of weeks back.

There’s little more to be gleaned from this week’s lineup, though.  Mortal Kombat 11 remains in the second spot, though as expected for a title with a diehard fanbase it suffered a fairly steep 74 per cent drop in sales. FIFA 19 and Red Dead Redemption 2 continue to sell steadily in the third and fourth spots.

The only other point of note in charts was the re-entry of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age at No.15. The title comes back into the Top 40 on the back of the release of the Nintendo Switch version of the game, with that version making up 97 per cent of sales.

There were no new entries in the charts.

Looking a bit more widely the retail market continues to be sluggish compared to last year, with a 17.7 per cent drop in units and a 12.4 per cent drop in value (year to date) compared to 2018. That doesn’t tell the whole story, though, as the ageing PS4 and Xbox One platforms are both down, while the newer Switch is well up on last year. Remembering that the Sony and Microsoft platforms still make up almost three-quarters of the retail software market between them.

Here’s the Top Ten for the week ending May 4th (data courtesy of GfK/Ukie):
