Trion unveils new â??MMORTSâ?? project

Trion World Network has unveiled more info on its secret project following the recent departure of ex-company president Jon Van Caneghem.

The online game publisher – headquartered in California – has announced that its new, unnamed title will be an ‘MMORTS’, developed in partnership with Nevada-based Universe at War developer Petroglyph.

The title has yet been given a release date, though Trion CEO Lars Buttler stated that it would mark the arrival of the "world’s first truly high-end MMORTS."

“Petroglyph is utilizing Trion’s advanced server architecture, designed to enable massive scalability, dynamic content evolution and cross platform development, to create an epic gaming experience,” read press release from the joint venture.

Trion also stated that the title is the first 3rd-party development on the Trion Platform, and will be published internationally by the group.

Petroglyph is perhaps best known for its work on Star Wars: Empire At War. Its team are comprised of several veteran developers who once worked on the 1992 RTS Dune 2, marked by many as the progenitor of the RTS genre itself.

Trion, meanwhile, has yet to release a game, though the group has managed to successfully secure substantial development funds.

“Petroglyph is extremely excited to be working with a visionary publisher like Trion World Network"”, said Michael Legg, president and co-founder of Petroglyph.

“Combining Trion’s platform and industry expertise with our Glyph game technology and our development pedigree will allow us to unleash a groundbreaking MMORTS gaming experience to the world.”
