Now Amazon cuts 3DS price to £187

Amazon.co.uk has lowered the price of the 3DS to 187 making it the cheapest offering for consumers, along with Morrisons.

The 3DS has also become the most pre-ordered gaming console on the online retailer’s website.

Customers have placed 20 per cent more pre-orders on the handheld device than they did with the PS3 in 2007, which was previously Amazon’s most pre-ordered console.

The 3DS – which launches on March 25th – has also seen 56 per cent more pre-orders than 2006’s Wii, and 255 per cent more than the DSi netted in 2009.

It’s unusual for a handheld console to attract this amount of excitement in the run up to launch,” said Amazon.co.uk’s director of video games Chris Poad.

Such high levels of interest are normally reserved for the play-at-home hardware like the Nintendo Wii and last year’s Xbox 360 Kinect.

Nintendo 3DS is launching at a time when interest in all things 3D is incredibly high, and with the promise of real 3D graphics without glasses, it’s a real breakthrough in handheld video game entertainment.”

Amazon.co.uk’s top five hardware pre-orders

1. Nintendo 3DS – launches March 25th
2. PlayStation 3 – launched March 2007
3. Nintendo Wii – launched December 2006
4. Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect – launched November 2010
5. PlayStation Move – launched September 2010
