Wargaming has established a new UK studio, Wargaming UK.
The new venture for the World of Tanks developer/publisher has created 60+ positions and joins a global network of 18 studios and offices which employ 4500 people worldwide. It plans to double its headcount “over the next year”.
The company says the new Guildford-based studio will “create a brand-new IP aimed at the next generation of FTP gamers”.
“We are in a unique position – we have the backing of a global company, AND we have autonomy over our own creative direction – it’s really exciting,” said studio head, Sean Decker. “We are proud to be a part of Wargaming’s enduring legacy, as well as its reputation as a great company to work for. We want to continue building this quality across our UK team, with 30 positions currently open for application. We really believe that we can be the best place to make games in the UK.”
“For Wargaming, the UK studio is a really exciting step in our expansion – and we are looking forward to releasing information on their new project. It is going to be big,” added Wargaming CEO, Victor Kislyi. “It was a pleasure to celebrate with the team, and we are looking forward to watching them create something special.”
A launch event saw the studio host a 48-hour game jam, which “pitted teams against each other – vying for the top spot in the eyes of the experienced panel of judges”.
“Wargaming UK is a place of continuous learning and self-development, and is a studio that values their employees, doing everything they can to promote structured working methodologies, to make their employees’ jobs as enjoyable and as streamlined as possible,” Darren Tucker told MCV/Develop when they recently joined the studio as a vehicle artist. “Wargaming UK is also an advocate of building up its employees, allowing them to become the best developer they can be, taking an interest into what you are passionate about working on and what you are striving to achieve throughout your career.”
