Sandbox stealth game Hitman has hit 5 million players, claims its developer via Twitter. Newly independent developer Io-Interactive tweeted the news and have also said they are continuing to support the game.
HITMAN now has more than 5 million players!
Thank you to our entire community for your continued support & making the game a huge success! pic.twitter.com/ik9mBAUtt8— IO Interactive (@IOInteractive) August 3, 2017
Developer Io-Interactive recently separated from a publisher and former owner Square Enix and retained the ownership of the Hitman IP. The studio has been developing games for almost two decades and while there is no news on what’s next for the Hitman franchise or any other games, the studio is continuing to support the game and its monthly content. The studio has also been working on previous Hitman titles for Xbox backwards compatibility.
"We have never strived for the expected or predictable," said CEO Hakan Abrak back in June. "Instead, we are always in pursuit for what feels original and real. Our passion and determination has never been greater and so that is why we have decided it is not the time to stop as we have many more exciting and original tales to tell."
Given recent tweets from the studio, there is certainly something coming and we are excited to see what that will be.
