Reigns: Game of Thrones arriving in October

Devolver Digital has announced a deal to bring a new version of Reigns to PC and mobile, with the new game of royal decision-making (it’s more fun than it sounds) tying in with HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Reigns: Game of Thrones, as it is cunningly titled, brings the typical Reigns-style of play to things – you’re presented with cards posing a binary one or the other choice, and you make said choice. The story progresses in the direction your decisions lead it, until you are inevitably overthrown/murdered/exiled/otherwise deposed. Then you start again with a new reigning monarch.

The game has always suited the backstabbing and treachery-infested likes of Game of Thrones, so the tie-in is a solid idea. It’s also likely to be a good financial decision for Devolver, which will be selling Reigns: Game of Thrones at the lower end of the premium price scale – £2.99.

As for its storyline, Reigns: Game of Thrones presents players with a series of potential futures for well-known characters from the HBO TV show, via the visions of the Red Priestess Melissandre. And you’ll be taking the… reins… of big names from the show, like Cersei Lannister, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, and Sansa Stark, with others available too.

As the press release states: “Players will choose characters to claim the Iron Throne while carefully navigating the complex relationships and hostile factions of the Seven Kingdoms. Employ ruthless tactics to outwit political rivals, wield impervious charm on your fickle bannerman, and maintain the balance and favour of the people to extend your reign to maybe, one day, survive the horrors of a winter in Westeros. Decide the fate of Seven Kingdoms and those that reside in your land to the soaring score of the HBO series.”

This isn’t the first time Devolver has jumped on board with a huge licence – just last year its film division published CODumentary, a documentary about… well, COD, unsurprisingly.

More info can be found on the official site, while pre-orders are available on iTunes, Google Play, and Steam, with the game set for release October 18 on PC, and a vaguer ‘October’ for mobile formats.
