Korean games publisher Netmarble and Kabam have announced that Netmarble will be acquiring the impending acquisition of Kabam’s Vancouver branch, best known for producing the hit mobile game Marvel Contest of Champions.
Neither party has announced exactly how much Netmarbles is paying for the acquisition, although they’re hoping to finalise the deal early next year. At the moment, this deal is expected to include not just the Vancouver studio, but some customer service staff from Kabam’s Austin location and some of the marketing, business development and user acquisition teams from the company’s San Francisco office.
In addition to Marvel Contest of Champions, which is currently earning the company something in the region of $25 million a month, the studio are also working on Transformers: Forged to Fight with the licensed game due to release in 2017’s second quarter.
“We are thrilled to acquire Kabam’s Vancouver studio, which has proven itself as one of the best in game development, and business competitiveness in the western market inducing the U.S.,” said Suengwon Lee, Netmarble’s chief global officer. “We look forward to strengthening Netmarble’s business in the western market including the U.S. through this deal.”
