Apprenticeships, placements and work experience initiatives to spur on creative industries

Warner Bros is launching a new programme of investment in skills and training for aspiring game developers and creative industry talent in the UK.

To begin from September 2013, the multi-year scheme will feature scholarships with work placements, mentoring, apprenticeships and training courses for young people across the company’s UK games, TV and film sectors.

The nationwide investment programme will include 12 scholarships at educational institutions such as the National Film and Television School, University of Hertfordshire and University of Arts London.

There are also six apprenticeships available in roles such as post-production and 20 work experience places for schools nearby Warner Bros’ London HQ.

Schemes for other industries include two trainee positions on every Warner Bros film production in the UK, 25 year-long courese places for young people at theatre company Chickenshed and five work placements at upcoming West End musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with some students receiving an addditional three month placement.

Warner Bros has previously invested more than 1 million to Creative Skillset’s Skills Investment fund, as well as partnership with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art to help provide students with the skills in roles such as motion-capture and voice-over acting.

The company will also continue running its intern program for over 40 students who spend a year with the firm during their sandwich degree courses.

The UK is known for world class creativity and innovation, and some of Warner Bros.’ greatest successes have been produced with British talent,” said Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara.

Warner Bros. Creative Talent reinforces our global commitment to supporting the industries and communities in which we operate and our continuing investment in talent.”

Creative Skillset CEO Dinah Caine added: We welcome this significant investment in skills by Warner Bros., which builds upon its industry-leading contribution to the Skills Investment Fund, beneficiaries of which are already working on Warner Bros. productions here in the UK.

It has been incredibly exciting collaborating with Warner Bros. on this new programme, which will undoubtedly inspire and train young people through education classes for schools right through to post-graduate training and, by doing so, help ensure the UK’s competitive advantage.”
