Media behemoth Warner will snap up more top studios as it homes in on its target of becoming a billion dollar publisher within five years.
After the appointment of Chris Meredith as the European boss of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (as revealed by MCV in September), the new publishing powerhouse made another highly significant statement of intent last week as it struck a multi-million pound deal for Britsoft company TT Games.
But there’s more to come, Warner UK president and MD Josh Berger told MCV. We are all very incentivised to grow the business and that’s what we’re going to do.
I think you’ve seen the various steps we’ve taken to date, so it’s definitely part of a very clear strategy we have in this space. So I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw other moves. Certainly with this latest deal for TT Games it represents how keen we are on this industry.”
And while WBIE continues to eye up other potential deals, new signing TT Games will set about creating blockbuster family titles based on Warner’s stock of big name IP – as well as continuing with its own lucrative Lego-licensed games.
They’re a really good fit for us. There is a strong common thread in our approach in terms of quality and providing great games to the family end of the market which is very important,” added Berger.
We have nothing specific to announce at this stage but as you can imagine that we are going to have a very close relationship with TT Games in terms of intellectual property. And we are both strong in those areas.”
