â??As a British developer the BAFTAs means so much to usâ?? says game director Sefton Hill

Rocksteady victorious with Best Game BAFTA

UK studio Rocksteady has picked up the coveted prize for Best Game at the GAME British Academy video game awards.

The developer faced the toughest of competition throughout the awards night in London, but managed to take two honours from the eight it was nominated in.

The trailblazing success of Batman Arkham Asylum saw the studio also pick up the award for Gameplay – but the golden mask for Best Game will be the one that will stand at the front of the trophy cabinet, having bested the likes of Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, FIFA 10 and Left 4 Dead 2 in the process.

“As a British developer, the BAFTAs obviously means so much to us,” said game director Sefton Hill when picking up the award.

“I’d like to thank my family, my beautiful wife, for putting up with so much of [me] not being around to make this game.”

Rocksteady managed to escape the curse of the multimedia crossover with Arkham Asylum, with the 2009 title receiving startling critical and commercial success.

The studio went to the VGAs earlier in the year and brought back to the UK three awards for its breakthrough title.

At the time, studio director told Develop that the group was “very proud to represent the British games industry” after picking up the honour.

At the BAFTAs, Rocksteady’s thunder was somewhat halved by Californian studio Naughty Dog, which took four awards on the night for Uncharted 2. Since Christmas, both titles have been listed next to each other on numerous nomination lists.
