The Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association will officially change its name to the Association for UK Interactive Entertainment on September 7th, it has been confirmed.
The trade body has booked an event in the London SW1 region where the change will be made official.
The decision to rebrand was made in March, with the organisation stating that the ELSPA Board proposed the change to the organisation’s name to reflect the evolving and expanding nature of the industry, which the association exists to represent, and to encompass the new areas of activity that will be undertaken”.
ELSPA director general Michael Rawlinson added to MCV that: We’ve got to move with this world if we are to remain relevant to.
What is a publisher these days? It hasn’t been for some time someone who commissions someone else to make games for them – many of our members own games developers now, and many developers know they don’t have to go to a big corporation to get their content out. All of that is blurring. We are no longer talking about just console and PC any more – people play with mobile apps, in browsers and online.”
