Little Nightmares to set new ‘benchmark for visual and sound design’, says Bandai Namco

Upcoming indie title Little Nightmares will set a new standard for game design, publisher Bandai Namco has told MCV. The horror-themed puzzle platformer, which releases digitally and at retail tomorrow on PS4, Xbox One and PC, has been developed by Tarsier Studios and follows the story of Six, a small girl trapped on a terrifying ship known as The Maw. It has already enjoyed great critical success in the run-up to launch, and currently has a Metacritic score of 80.

We have high expectations for Little Nightmares with awareness that has been growing since Gamescom of 2016," Bandai Namco Entertainment UK’s PR and marketing director Lee Kirton told MCV.

"Following on from showcasing at key consumer shows through 2016 and 2017, we have gained high momentum and huge praise from media. We are so very happy with the feedback from media and consumers for this beautiful game and it sets a benchmark for visual and sound design from an amazing studio Tarsier. We are incredibly excited about the release on Friday.”

At retail, Little Nightmares will be available in two editions – a standard version and a limited Six Edition, which is exclusive to GAME. In the Six Edition, players will receive a 10cm high Six figurine trapped in a themed cage box, an exclusive A3 poster, a sticker board and a copy of the game’s soundtrack.

Little Nightmares is just one of the European-developed titles in Bandai Namco’s portfolio this year, as it also joins Farm 51’s Get Even, Mojo Bones’ Impact Winter and Slightly Mad Studio’s Project Cars 2. MCV recently spoke with Kirton about the publisher’s new western-led strategy, and you can read the full interview here.

"We work so hard on our third party titles, and working with indie developers, Europeanstudios and amazing innovative games is something we have been keen on for some time," he said at the time. "We are very excited to be working with Mojo Bones, Tarsier Studios and The Farm 51 to bring three very different and unique titles to the market."
