Backspace Exhibition organisers have issued a call for Leamington Spa-based developers to submit archive materials and stories of how they built their studios for its two-week event examining the local industry’s history.
To be displayed as part of an exhibition in the area between May 18th and June 2nd, the event aims to tell the story of the Silicon Spa region’s gaming heritage from the early 1980s through to the current generation of developers.
A number of games-inspired events and activities will also take place in the town across the two weeks of the exhibition.
Developers such as the Blitz Games Studio founders the Oliver Twins and Codemasters and Kwalee founder David Darling have pledged their support for the event and are currently working with organisers on providing exhibition content.
“We’re honoured to be a part of such a fantastic event as Backspace,” Philip Oliver.
“We began our careers in the games industry here back in the 1980s, and Leamington has helped shape not just our careers but our company too. Games development in the town is about more than just the past though and we’re delighted that Backspace will be showcasing the sheer diversity of creativity that exists here today.”
The Backspace exhibition will be curated by Warwick University professor of Art and Digital Media Michael Pigott, and is also supported by industry PR consultant Natalie Griffith and local organisations such as Heritage Matters, Wariwck Districit Council and the Leamington Town Partnership.
