GAMEFest vs Eurogamer Expo

Forget Battlefield and CoD – the first real video game battle of the year takes place over the next week between GAME and Eurogamer. MCV has all the essential info.

There’s no denying it’s going to be a very busy ten-day period for the industry, but arguably one that provides publishers with a vital opportunity. A chance to get their big products in front of buyers in time for the Q4 games rush.

Editorial games website Eurogamer has been running its event for four years now, but with retailer GAME earlier this year announcing its first consumer show would run one week ahead of Eurogamer’s, it caused a few ripples.

GAME initially exclaimed about how much it likes being first, while Eurogamer quipped it was disappointed with the timing of the retailer’s event.

Publishers were given the challenging decision of choosing to attend just one or both events, with firms like Activision opting for just one. In its case, Modern Warfare 3 making its UK consumer debut at GAMEFest.

But any drama surrounding the two shows has now died down, with many publishers promoting games at both events. Scuffles have been forgotten – replaced with a growing excitement. Consumers are about to get their hands on the biggest games of the year, heavily influencing their buying decisions for the months ahead, and publishers want to be there.

What kind of impact Eurogamer Expo and GAMEFest will have on the industry in years to come remains to be seen.

For now, we’ve got all the essential information about each event listed below:
