[UPDATE] Activision has confirmed the release of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which will include Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. It will hit shelves for PS4 and Xbox One on September 21st.
[ORIGINAL STORY] On the back of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy‘s impressive success last year, it looks like Activision has another remaster in the works.
Kotaku yesterday reported that the publisher is going to announce a Spyro the Dragon Trilogy Remaster this March and release it in Q3 2018, according to “multiple sources familiar with the project.” The remaster would include 1998’s Spyro the Dragon, 1999’s Ripto’s Rage!, and 2000’s Year of the Dragon, all originally developed by Insomniac Games. The remaster would be developed by Vicarious Visions, which already handled the development of the Crash Bandicoot remaster.
The Spyro remaster would launch on PS4 (and include PS4 Pro support) but would only be a timed PS4 exclusive, with the title due on other platforms a year after launch, though “this detail will not be part of the announcement in March,” Kotaku said, adding that Crash Bandicoot “is tied to similar one year exclusivity window” and should land on other platforms this year.
Kotaku added that “one source suggested that September would be the launch month, which would be in line with Spyro the Dragon’s 20th anniversary.”
Activision’s Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was incredibly successful last year, claiming seven No.1s in the UK before Uncharted: The Lost Legacy dethroned the title. It was also Amazon’s best-selling title in 2017 and Activision Blizzard revealed earlier this month during its investor call that “Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was the number one-selling remastered collection in PS4 history.”
