Substance Painter gets spring update and new UI

Allegorithmic has released a new update for 3D painting software Substance Painter, aiming at simplifying users’ experience.

The Substance Painter Spring 2018 release unveiled a new UI for the software, offering more interface customisation options to users, such as new UI scaling features. New toolbars and widgets have also been implemented to help increase users’ performance by making everything easily accessible. Tablet painting has also been improved to ensure “a higher fidelity transfer of external gestures,” the announcement said.

The update provides a total of 15 improvements, such as faster loading times (smart materials, brushes and presets should load “as much as six times faster” the announcement said) and the ability to drag and drop assets directly in the viewport:

Allegorithmic’s product manager Jeremie Noguer has written a blog post to explain all the changes in details. The team will also be at GDC this week – pop over to booth #1709 to see a demo if you’re in San Francisco this week.

Dr. Sébastien Deguy, founder and CEO of Allegorithmic, commented: “Painting is a creative process, so any update to Substance Painter needs to enhance that experience. With the help of our users, we’ve created a new, slimmed down UI that provides more space and less clutter, so artists can really zero in on what they are doing.”
