ESL has announced that ESL One New York will return for its third year, but will now primarily be a Counter-Strike event.
The previous two iterations of the event have been Dota 2 tournaments with top teams from across the world attending to field new rosters after The International. This year’s event will no longer be a Dota 2 tournament, with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive taking over the role of lead game. More games for the event will also be announced in the coming weeks.
ESL One New York will offer a $250,000 prize pool for the top CS:GO teams to compete for and will take place on October 1st and 2nd. The event will be held in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, home of the Brooklyn Nets and New York Islanders. The tournament will feature a double elimination group stage, followed by single elimination best-of-three matches on the main stage, and there will be a ton of other activities for fans to take part in such as pro player autograph sessions and virtual reality experiences.
We’re ecstatic to team up with Barclays Center to expand ESL One New York and deliver an unforgettable weekend of eSports,” says Craig Levine, CEO of ESL North America. Barclays Center is a world class facility and will serve as the perfect host for our expanded event, which now will feature CS:GO.”
The eSports industry is experiencing unprecedented growth and we are thrilled to be a part of it by hosting one of the largest tournaments on the East Coast,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment. ESL One New York further diversifies Barclays Center’s programming portfolio and continues establishing the venue as a leader in emerging trends in sports and entertainment.”
Tickets for the event will go on sale on May 17th on the ESL One website.
