In response to recent uproar from the game’s community Bungie have cancelled this evening’s Destiny 2 livestream, planned to showcase the forthcoming Curse of Osiris content.
The Destiny community is up in arms about the recent revelation that the game’s experience point scaling system, which has now been disabled, was behaving in a way that could make it harder to get experience points in certain activities.
The system was providing players with more experience awarded during longer or fixed duration activities (think Crucible multiplayer or the end-game Leviathan Raid) and less experience for quick, easily repeatable, tasks like public events. “We are not happy with the results, and we’ve heard the same from the community” said Bungie in a blog post revealing the existence of the system. “Effective immediately, we are deactivating this system.”
This, and some other opinions about the game have led to the title’s fanbase getting a bit of a grump on, and so Bungie are taking steps to fix things. However, this means they won’t be hosting the third, final, Curse of Osiris stream tonight and instead will be providing a blog post addressing some of the community’s concerns with the game.
“You’ll hear from studio leadership about their assessment of Destiny all up,” Bungie community manager David Dague said in a forum post. “They’ll talk about our goals for the game going forward, and you’ll also learn about how we’re reacting to your feedback with some game updates that will arrive in the next few weeks.”
The first two Curse of Osiris streams showed new locations, quests and weapons. The third stream was likely to provide more of the same, but not this new development blog is going to focus on “delivering some higher priority information about Destiny 2.”
