Russian games publisher, MY.GAMES, has announced a revenue increase of 26.8% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2019, reaching $119 million (RUB 7.7 billion). The increase has been attributed to the continued success of the publisher’s free-to-play titles on PC, consoles, and mobile, with mobile games earning remaining the biggest growth driver, now accounting for 62% of total revenues.
It’s a promising development for the company that has global ambitions including plans for its own online store later this year.
The firm originally launched in May 2019 combining the gaming assets of Mail.ru Group and My.com. Its existing titles include the Warface franchise, Conqueror’s Blade and Hustle Castle. The latter has surpassed 50 million downloads to date and has been a substantial part of MY.GAMES’s success thus far.
There’s also been strong growth for mobile game, War Robots, surpassing 133 million downloads and seeing its revenue grow by an unknown amount. Warface has also become one of the top 10 free-to-play downloads in the US.
“We had a strong third quarter for MY.GAMES in 2019 and are delighted with our progress worldwide,” said MY.GAMES CEO Vasiliy Maguryan. “Our games are now being played in more than 190 countries, with the US, Germany and Japan becoming our largest markets outside Russia. We are looking forward to a strong Q4, marking the end to a fantastic year for MY.GAMES.”
That seems reasonably likely given the aforementioned launch of the MY.GAMES Store, as well as the recent release of American Dad! Apocalypse Soon, a strategy mobile game developed in-house by Fast Forward Studio in partnership with FoxNext. MY.GAMES has also developed a partnership with iDreamSky for localised distribution of titles in China.
Keep an eye on MY.GAMES. With Marguryan noting there are plans to “draw 80% of our revenue from international markets” by 2022, the potential for it becoming a big player is there.
