ESL and Hoplon announce €10,000 Heavy Metal Machines European tournament

Hoplon and ESL Play announced last week that they would be hosting a €10,000 European tournament for Hoplon’s vehicular MOBA Heavy Metal Machines.

Registration for its Esports European Championship opened on 1st July 2017 via ESL Play. It’s a bold move in Europe for Hoplon, who are well known as a leading game developer in Brazil but aren’t as recognisable in Europe.

Filled with fast-paced action, team play elements, unique MOBA gameplay and a heavy metal soundtrack, aspiring esports players, or current professionals across the globe, will be able to register for the first Heavy Metal Machines competitive tournament hosted on a European server with a prize pool of over €10,000. Hoplon is taking the necessary steps intended for its most important Heavy Metal Machines event, with recent leaderboards and bomb updates ensuring the MOBA is prepared for the competitive scene.

Players will be able to register through the official ESL website, connect their Steam account to their ESL account, and then team-up in Heavy Metal Machines. The captain of the team will register their side into the championship on the ESL platform.

We’re seeing several new tournaments from ESL recently, focussing on lower prize pots for games that may not have much of a profile in esports. It’s a good strategy, and seems healthy for the esports ecosystem in general, which is largely still centered on just a few big names, and would benefit from a bit of diversity in the competition.

Qualifiers kick off on July 16, with the main finals taking place on July 30.
