On Wednesday, Ubisoft announced the For Honor Hero Series, an international tournament program, organised with esports outfit ESL, which will kick off on July 8.
It’s open to all in Europe and the United States, and will see weekly online 1v1 Duel tournaments across all three of For Honor’s platforms. These will run for four weeks, and players will earn points for their rankings in each tournament.
Following this competitions, the top players will come to a live event on August 12 in Burbank California for a prize pool of $10,000. This finals will be broadcast on Twitch, Facebook Live and YouTube, and is planned to be the first in a series of For Honor competitions. In a press release, Ubisoft have said they’ll be keenly looking for community and participant feedback.
You can find out more information on the game’s website, but also apply for their shoutcasting contest, which will see two entrants picked as the casters at the live 12th August event.
“At ESL we are committed to growing the esports landscape and For Honor’s competitive ecosystem has been something we’ve all been looking forward to,” said Sean Charles, VP of publisher and developer relations at ESL. “With the For Honor Hero Series and the addition of ranked mode, there is a lot in store for future For Honor players.”
This comes a week after news that For Honor is getting ranked play, where speculation about an esports event was rife. For Honor is in a pretty bad place right now, with many players abandoning it after launch. However, structurally it’s set up very similarly to a fighting game, and while this tournament may not offer a massive prize financially, it should go a long way to adding some depth to the esports scene.
After the Hero Series, tournaments will continue in the game’s ranked mode. There’s no word on whether playing this will let you go to Burbank, but it should go a small way to providing a competitive atmosphere for players to test themselves in.
