The International’s prize pool for 2017 surpasses $20m

The International, Dota 2’s biggest tournament, is just a month away and the crowdfunded prize pool is now at over $20m dollars.

According to the Dota 2 prize tracker, there’s currently a prize pool of $20,279,254, with just $491,206 to go until it eclipses last year’s prize.

This is almost guaranteed to occur, with 41 days until play starts for The International in Seattle, and Valve contributing 25% of all Dota 2 International Compendium sales, and money spent buying levels for the Compendium that unlock cosmetics and other fun features, into the prize pot.

If it exceeds The International 6’s prize pool, TI7 will break records and become the biggest prize pool in the history of esports. The prize will be divided between the 18 teams attending, and it’s all to play for as none of the competitors from the defending champions Wings Gaming or last year’s runner up Digital Chaos are at the event.

The International can be watched via Twitch, or through the Dota 2 client itself.
