Blizzard has announced the return of Heroes of the Dorm for its third year and revealed that the competition will be streamed exclusively on Facebook Live.
US university students are invited to take part in the competition, with the winning team receiving a grant towards their college tuition fees. In 2017 Blizzard will give away $500,000 in prizing and scholarships.
Previously the event had been broadcast on ESPN, however this year Facebook has got in on the action, acquiring the exclusive streaming rights for its Facebook Live service. This follows just weeks after YouTube announced it had secured the exclusive streaming rights for the ESL Pro League in 2017.
The group stages of the event are due to start in mid February, with the knockout stage beginning on March 18th. The finals will be held on April 8th.
It seems like securing exclusive streaming rights for major events is the latest trend in eSports broadcasting, and you can expect it to continue over the coming months.
