As has been rumoured for some time, it looks like the remastered version of one of Call of Duty’s most cherished iterations is getting a standalone release.
Charlie Intel has published images of what appears to be a physical release for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, said to be sourced from US retailer Target. It says the game will be released on June 27th and have a US price of $39.99.
Furthermore, it’s not clear if the game includes the Variety Map Pack DLC that came out earlier this year. If not, it means the price for the full experience will be $54.98.
Some Call of Duty fans were irked last year when it was confirmed that the Modern Warfare remaster would only be available as part of high-end 69.99 Legacy Edition of COD: Infinite Warfare.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is a full game digital download that will be included in the Legacy, Legacy Pro, and Digital Deluxe editions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare,” Activision categorically confirmed at the time. You must own Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in order to get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.”
Some people immediately presumed at the time that the Remaster would likely get a standalone release, but as the months passed this hope had started to fade.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is one of the most beloved games of all-time, reborn for a new generation,” Activision publishing chief Eric Hirshberg said at the time of the game’s unveiling. We have lovingly remastered it with a whole new level of graphical fidelity and realism that wasn’t possible when the original was released. It’s going to be a great year for Call of Duty players."
Raven Software boss Brian Raffel added: The original Modern Warfare raised the bar on video games and forever will be remembered as one of the best. It’s an honor to be developing the remaster and we are committed to faithfully remastering this classic for Call of Duty fans."
