Studio to take on more accesible approach for next-gen and handheld game

Firaxis to Revolutionise Meier’s Civilisation

Publisher 2K Games has confirmed that Sid Meier’s Firaxis is working on a console version of its popular Civilzation franchise – entitled Revolution, it is due out on next-gen consoles and handheld in Q2 2008.

Whilst claiming to be equally as epic as its PC cousin, the console version will be tailor-made for the host hardware, with a brand new control scheme and possibly some significant interface changes.

16 civilizations will be on offer, and both voice and video chat are promised for the online multiplayer.

"Civilization Revolution is the game I’ve always wanted to make," Meier stated.

"We are excited to take advantage of the power of next generation consoles and the ingenuity of handhelds, to create a great and unique strategy game for newcomers to the series, as well as the millions of fans around the world who enjoy Civilization on the PC."
