UK CHARTS: MW2 still top

It’s five weeks and counting now for Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as the record-breaking shooter beds in ahead of the key Christmas listings in the ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack All Formats Top 40.

You can read the full Top 40 – as well as single-format charts – in MCV’s essential weekly guide for the channel, RETAIL BIZ. Download it or read it online here.

A bigger surprise is that Nintendo’s latest Zelda title, Spirit Tracks on the DS, has failed to make the Top Ten in its first week, having instead to settle for a 12th spot debut.

The Top Ten itself shows little change, though there are big gains for Nintendo’s Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus, which climb three and two places respectively to settle either side of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed II in third place.

Arguably the biggest champ of the week is Ubisoft’s Just Dance, which climbs from 30th to 8th – a jump in sales of nearly 300 per cent. There’s also a new entry for Ubisoft’s James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, which having failed to enter the Top 40 last week manages a 29th place finish on its second week of release.

Here is the ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack All Formats Top 10 in full (for the week ending December 12th):
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision)
2. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo)
3. Assassin’s Creed II (Ubisoft)
4. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo)
5. FIFA 10 (EA)
6. New Super Mario Bros Wii (Nintendo)
7. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Sega)
8. Just Dance (Ubisoft)
9. Forza Motorsport 3 (Microsoft)
10. Mario kart Wii (Nintendo)
