Nvidia’s GTX 1070 Ti is finally official

To the surprise of no one, Nvidia has finally announced its anticipated GTX 1070 Ti graphics card.

The card will launch on November 2nd with an RRP of £419, which reflects the spot it will be occupying in Nvdia’s line-up between the vanilla 1070 and the 1080.

The spec sheet shows that it boasts 8GB of GDDR5 Ram running at 8Gbps, providing bandwidth of 256GB/s. Furthermore, its 2,432 CUDA cores is only 128 shy of the 1080, so it will be interesting to see how close it can get to its big brother in performance terms. For comparison the normal 1070 has 1920 cores, so we can expect the Ti to boast big gains over that.

Clock speeds are reported at 1607MHz base and 1683MHz boost, which is the same as the 1080 and 1070 respectively.

The company has also quashed the rumours that the card will not be friendly to overclockers, stating: "We designed the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti to be an overclocking monster with plenty of headroom for gamers to crank up the clock speeds. And our partners have built cards with thermals and power supplies that allow gamers to push performance way past stock specifications."

All of which increases hopes that with a little work it’ll be able to push past the 1080’s base performance.

As is the way, Nvidia’s own Founders Edition SKUs will be the first to market, and can be ordered now. Expect third party cards to follow very shortly.

The release comes at a time where AMD’s new RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64 have upped the competition at the high-end level of the GPU market, threatening the 1070’s position as the best bang-for-buck choice on the market.
