This year’s Game Developers Choice Awards look set to recognise two of 2015’s greatest open-world titles.
The 16th annual ceremony in the long-running event will be held on March 16th in the San Francisco Moscone Center alongside the IGF Awards – the nominations for which were also recently revealed.
Leading the nominations are Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, with four nominations apiece, including Game of the Year. Joining them in the coveted category is Fallout 4, Bloodborne and Rocket League.
Three narrative-driven indie efforts received nods in the Game of the Year honourable mentions: Her Story, Undertale and Life is Strange. Two Nintendo titles – Super Mario Maker and Splatoon – finished up the group.
A further six games piled up three nominations each: Bloodborne, Star Wars Battlefront, Fallout 4, Her Story, Undertale and Splatoon.
Hosting the awards will be Funomena co-founder and game designer and producer Robin Hunicke, who has also worked on games including Journey, The Sims 2, Boom Blox and MySims. She is also a professor of art, games and playable Media at UC Santa Cruz and co-founder of the annual Experimental Gameplay Workshop.
