Latest Plants vs Zombies on Xbox platforms will allow players to pay to advance quicker

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare to receive microtransactions

Plants vs Zombies latest iteration has had microtransactions added, opening the means for users to spend money to advance their progress faster.

An update due this week will give players the option to purchase coins in Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare allowing them to access new packs and character content more quickly, said EA producer Brian Lindley.

“Now you have the choice to play your way; you can play to get new packs and content via earned coins in the game, or you can purchase coins to get more of the packs and content you want right away,” he said.

He added that all the same content can be earned through regular gameplay.

EA’s past track record with microtransactions has attracted criticisms from players who felt that they we’re being recurring forced to “pay to play”.

Earlier in the February, EA Mythic’s Dungeon Keeper sparked controversy for its in-app purchases, which the developer argued had been designed to suit the players’ play style.

In March 2013, EA backtracked on comments previously made by its COO Blake Jorgensen that the company would bring microtransactions to all its games.

Garden Warfare was developed by PopCap and released in February for Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
