Sega Europe relocating entire QA division to Bulgaria

Restructuring at Sega Europe will see its entire QA team relocated from London to Sofia, Bulgaria, by 2020.

The current QA setup has the Brentford-based team providing quality assurance support for Sega’s western development studios, such as Creative Assembly, Sports Interactive, and Relic, as well as external partners.

Speaking with GI.biz, Sega clarified the move was not something coming as a result of Brexit, which will see the UK leave the European Union in 2019. Gary Dale, president and COO of Sega Europe, told the site: “Bulgaria is a European leader for IT development, home to regional offices for some of the most renowned tech outfits in the world including IBM and Hewlett Packard and has a history of technological accomplishment and innovation.

“It’s the perfect location to open what will become a best-in-class quality assurance operation with the capacity to expand. We’re looking forward to the collaboration with the current UK team in London as we build this exciting operation in Sofia. Their expertise and passion for Sega and its diverse IPs will be invaluable throughout this process.”

The business is pursuing ‘active consultation’ with existing members of its QA team before the move goes ahead. Employees are being offered the chance to relocate or, ominously, ‘contribute to the completion of this project in an important and meaningful capacity’.
