The Walking Dead’s final season will be completed thanks to Skybound Games, the video game section of owners and creators of the original franchise Skybound Entertainment.
The news came via an announcement on Twitter, stating: “We’re SO happy to announce that we’ve reached a deal with @telltalegames that will allow Skybound to continue #TheWalkingDead: The Final Season! Let’s wrap up Clem’s story right! More details to come soon.”
The IP holder stepped up to the plate in the wake of Telltale’s all-but closure, in which around 250 employees were let go without any warning. The future of the Walking Dead’s final season continued to be discussed, with what remained at Telltale stating other parties had shown interest.
Seems the most recent claims that the series would be completed by the original team, re-hired by a third party, were indeed true. Skybound will be bringing back the team that worked on the final season (no specifics on if it’s everyone or not), and the series will be completed under the Skybound banner.
Skybound only entered the publishing world around seven months ago, while a deal was announced just last month that will see the studio creating games with the backing of Sky TV. The move to take the reins on the Walking Dead is unlikely to have a huge impact on any of these existing plans.
