Following the announcement of Guildford Games Festival – dubbed a “major new consumer, cultural, and business event” – the organisers have now also revealed the inaugural Guildford Games Awards, a brand new awards event taking place on June 29th, 2019.
“A cultural celebration of the talented individuals and studios living and working in the Guildford postcode area”, the event will give out eight award categories for Creativity, Collaboration, Community, Education, Innovation, Diversity and Inclusion, and Experience of the Year, as well as a Guildford Hero Award.
The judging panel consists of Lorraine Ansell (Voice Artist and BAFTA Crew Games Member), Adele Cutting (Soundcuts), Richard Franke (Magic Notion), Greg Howson (Supermassive), Chris Roberts (Stellar Entertainment), Dan Thomas (Etch Play), Matt Webster (EA), and Matthew Wiggins (Mojiworks). The event itself will be hosted by Sega’s Lauren Carter and Kitty Powers from Magic Notion.
“We are delighted to be part of the biggest gaming hub in the UK, and the Guildford Games Awards are a great way of shining a light on some of the amazing talent who work here,” said Sean Decker, product director at event sponsor Wargaming UK.
“Guildford is known as the Hollywood of Games, and Liquid Crimson is proud to be sponsoring and organising these awards which we want to feel as special as the Oscars!” added Jason Lord, founded of event sponsor Liquid Crimson. “There will be free food from a pop up kitchen South African BBQ, cocktails and local artesian drinks, plus music from the Bellefleurs. Most importantly, it will be a chance for all the people and companies in the area to unite in celebrating all the hard work they do and the fantastic games they make that are loved worldwide.”

The weekend-long Guildford Games Awards festival – which has been supported by Guildford Borough Council, the UK games trade body Ukie, The University of Surrey, and Enterprise M3 LEP – is designed for the public, media, and businesses “to learn about the dynamic nature and importance of games companies located in Guildford, UK”. It will include a charity fundraiser, an industry and business day, a consumer expo, and the inaugural Guildford Games Awards.
