PUBG monthly update adds MK14 EBR, first person mode and paid-for cosmetic crates on Aug 3

Next week is the next monthly update for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and this one is a big one, adding first-person servers, cosmetic microtransactions, and a beefy new DMR rifle.

The new gun is an Mk14 EBR, which will use 7.62 ammo and has a bipod which can be deployed while laying down to minimise recoil. It’s unsure how it’ll be classified in the game, whether as an assault rifle or sniper rifle. In the real world it’s a mix of both, a designated marksman rifle that combined the strengths of a single shot assault rifle with a sniper rifle.

In-game, expect the bipod to be useful for putting rounds on target at range, and as it’s starting out as available solely as a drop from supply crates, it’ll probably be more powerful than the SKS, with semi-automatic fire giving players more control than the bolt action Kar98K and M24, which also use 7.62 ammunition.

I haven’t even fired a Groza yet, the weapon added in June’s update but also hidden in supply crates which are, let’s be honest here, death.

For forced first person mode though, the big news is that it’s coming to the next update in both solo and duo mode for the NA and EU regions. The PUBG subreddit is particularly excited about the news, mostly because third-person peeking around the sides of obstacles has long been viewed as an issue with the game — an issue I don’t share as I’m a firm third-person fan — as the third person camera gives players more awareness of their surroundings and makes it easier to clear rooms or take a snipers nest and overlook at area without getting ambushed.

So, that’s the PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds monthly update for July, which is arriving a week later than planned on August 3rd.
