Steam just announced the top-selling and most-played games of 2018 to date, covering the first six months of the calendar year. And the standout winners for us where 2018 releases Jurassic World Evolution and Warhammer: Vermintide 2. Both of which hit the top Platinum rank.
Jurassic World Evolution only came out on June 12th, so that’s a huge shift it’s put in just a couple of weeks, and one that Frontier must be very pleased with. While Vermintide 2 has been building a big fan base since its official launch in March.
That puts those games up alongside perennial earners such as Dota 2, GTA V, PUBG, Rocket League, Counter-Strike and Rainbow Six Siege. Far Cry 5 was obviously up there, with the game already being picked out as the biggest earner of the year to date by the US NPD figures recently.
Steam’s information is a little obscure here (of course) with no definition of what a Platinum ranking pertains to, with Gold, Silver and Bronze ranks below that. The full list is here.
Other Platinum inclusions were open-world RPG Kingdom Come Deliverance and Civilization VI. While Warframe is worthy of note, with its recent The Sacrifice expansion having driven player numbers to previously unseen levels.
It’s most played segment is a little clearer with games ranked by peak simultanesou users. Here Warframe joined GTA V, Counter-Strike, PUBG, Dota 2 and Rainbow Six with over 100,000 simultaneous players. You can see the full list here.
